BeeJay Adams Fund

Benefits Quincy Community Theatre

BeeJay Adams loved everything about the theater.

She acted at an early age and even appeared as an extra in Ronald Reagan’s 1938 film, “Sergeant Murphy.”

Later in life, BeeJay was also active behind the curtain. She directed shows, made costumes and handled stage props.

She wanted young people to be involved in theater because she saw it as a valuable way for them to express themselves. Often described as “a spokesperson for the arts,” BeeJay co-founded Quincy’s Junior Theatre and was later named life president. All her life, BeeJay loved to attend shows both locally and elsewhere. “She enjoyed all the comedic and dramatic aspects of the theater,” her son Kent said.

BeeJay’s sons knew how important the theater was to their mom. “All my childhood days, that’s what she did,” said her son Mark.

After their mom’s passing, Kent and Mark Adams established the BeeJay Adams Fund with the Community Foundation of the Quincy Area. Grants from the fund will be used primarily to support student theater with the Quincy Community Theatre.

For the Adams brothers, establishing a fund that will benefit BeeJay’s favorite activity seemed only natural. “Decades from now, young people in Quincy will be benefiting from that gift,” Kent said. “And that’s a wonderful thing.”
